I think that Google glass is a really creative idea that will get a lot of attention and the media will really help feed the sales. The glasses are actually quite cool and if they really function well i see no real reason why they will not become a mainstream success. That being said, i think that the price will also be a huge determining factor and if they are affordable then everyone will have them.

I disagree - I think to say this will never become mainstream is a stretch. Now will be become mainstream by the end of say 2015? Probably not. But if you broaden our horizon and look out 15-20 years, I think it's a real possibility these will be an every day item by the year 2030-2040. There are so many "new tech" items that many people thought would never become mainstream and here we are using them in every day life. I think Google glasses have the same potential.

Well, there is a social barrier it must cross. I don't want to live in a society where people can record me discretely.

It's estimated that wearable technologies will grow anywhere from 5 billion to 50 billion in the coming years. Google glasses is one such wearable technology which is going to blossom and boom along with watches. It's so common for people to wear regular watches and glasses this is just a technological step up.

I don't expect millions of copies sold right at the launch because they might be expensive, but with time prices will go lower, people will get used to them and, before you know it, Google Glass is mainstream. As someone stated above, these kind of articles are only made to attract readers.

Google has the capital and more importantly the public mindshare to make Google Glasses mainstream. Of course, it will start out as a premium device for a certain niche, but given the right design and marketing, it can really penetrate into people's lives.
